On February 24, AWS made Elemental Inference generally available. It is a fully managed AI service that transforms live broadcast streams into vertical, mobile-ready video with 6 to 10 seconds of latency. Fox Sports and NBCUniversal are already running it in production.
What Elemental Inference Actually Does
At its core, the service sits between a live broadcast feed and social distribution platforms. Feed it a standard 16:9 stream, and it outputs a 9:16 vertical version in near real time.
Three main capabilities make it different from existing solutions:
1. AI-Powered Subject Tracking
The system identifies the primary subject in each frame, whether that is a quarterback dropping back, a news anchor at a desk, or a concert performer moving across stage. It adjusts the vertical crop dynamically, keeping the most important visual information centered.
